John Malempre joined Boral as a management trainee after graduating from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Mining Engineering and then Geology. He completed a Masters Degree in Management at Macquarie University in 1997 and is a past Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying Australia.
John was President of the Institute of Quarrying Australia from 2006 -2007 and has served in a number of other roles over his many years of membership.
During an extensive 40 year career with Boral he has filled many management roles throughout Australia including site management of large hard rock quarries, operations and general management roles.
Senior roles with Boral have included General Manager – South East Queensland Quarries; General Manager – New South Wales Country Concrete and Quarries; General Manager – Sydney Concrete and Quarries; Regional General Manager – Boral Construction Materials Victoria and Tasmania, and National Resources Manager. In addition he has been a Director of a number of Boral subsidiary companies.
During his career with Boral, John had the opportunity to undertake a number of overseas assignments associated with acquisitions and development projects in Europe, America, South East Asia and the Middle East.
John retired from Boral in 2013, and after brief spell relaxing and fishing established his current consulting business Conmats Consulting undertaking work across the Australian construction materials industry. This has included a part-time role within the Victorian Earth Resources Regulation as the Principal Stakeholder Liaison Officer.
John is married to Tammy, they have three adult children a handful of grandchildren and calls Melbourne home. Interests outside of work include boating and fishing, growing orchids and reading.
